Smith County Memorial Hospital (SCMH) is a Critical Access Hospital, with an attached Rural Health Clinic. SCMH believes that a quality healthcare facility can improve the wellness of the individual patients it serves and that of the community as a whole. The smaller population in Smith County allows practitioners to develop closer relationships with their patients, providing a higher caliber of care and fostering a sense of trust and community. SCMH values compassion and strives to make patients, guests, and co-workers feel appreciated. We care for and support each other's well-being, and our patient care extends to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual support.

Whitney, and her husband Jace, love raising their two children in rural Smith County.

"I love the freedom of the rural lifestyle. To have the space and the opportunity to continue that with my kiddos has always been a dream of mine."

"Working in a rural hospital, the people coming in are your friends, your family, your neighbors and that makes it a little more special...I've always had a passion for OB. Here at Smith County Memorial Hospital they find your passion and they feed that, they put you into positions and they give you opportunities to really grow within your passion."

I FOLLOWED MY DOULA TO SMITH CENTER

"This is a picture of Elizabeth, 'my' doula, and my babies that she helped deliver. I call her my doula because I would not have a baby without her! So much so that I followed her to Smith Center to have my third child. I am so happy I did! My [Smith County Memorial Hospital] birthing team, Dr. Keah Wiehl, and all the wonderful nurses were amazing."

BEING A RURAL PROVIDER IS SPECIAL

"My favorite thing about being a provider in a rural community is taking care of a whole family and being there from the birth of a baby to the death of a loved one and all those milestones in between. It's super fun watching siblings meet their new baby brother or sister and watch them grow up and change."
