OH GIVE ME A HOME WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM

Home on the Range cabin Smith County Kansas

In 1871, on the banks of West Beaver Creek, Dr. Higley captured the beauty of his Kansas homestead in the poem My Western Home. Inspired by the serene landscape he found in Smith County, his words still echo through the rolling hills, vast prairies, and endless skies that define the area today. This peaceful setting offers the same sense of belonging that Higley felt, where life moves at a gentler pace and nature's beauty surrounds you - whether you're discovering it for the first time or reconnective with its quiet charm.

Oh, give me a home, where the buffalo roam

Where the deer and the antelope play

Where seldom is heard a discouraging work

And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Home, home on the range

Where the deer and the antelope play

Where seldom is heard a discouraging word

And the skies are not cloudy all day.
